Candlelight tales at Reinhardstein Castle (FR-NL) Candlelight tours every Thursday evening in July and August.

Departure at 8 p.m. in French and at 8.30 p.m. in Dutch

Located in the very heart of Les Cantons de l’Est and the Hautes Fagnes, Château de Reinhardstein at the top of its rocky spur, from where a waterfall cascades down, overlooks La Warche, 800 metres downstream from the Robertville dam.

Wenceslas de Luxembourg authorised Renaud de Waimes to build a castle here in 1354.

With the final demise of the de Waimes family, the castle successively passed into the hands of the Zivelles, the Brandscheids, then the Nassaus.

In 1965, Jean Overloop, a teacher in Brussels, and a history-lover, discovered the castle in ruins, almost by chance, and in his own words, it was love at first sight. It took no less than eighteen months, helped by a few other people passionate about it, and using the knowledge of local craftspeople, to restore Reinhardstein.
