Fort Fléron is one of the 12 forts that make up the fortified position of Liège, built between 1881 and 1891 according to General Brialmont's plans.
It was entirely made of unreinforced concrete instead of masonry, a new material for the time. The fort was heavily bombed on WW1 during the Battle of Liège and at the beginning of the WW2.
Subsequently, the fort was entirely buried under a park bordered by a city. Apart from the air tower at the entrance to Retinne and the locations of the domes, only the layout of the surrounding streets and a commemorative plaque still bear witness to the imprint left by this fort.
