This exceptional exhibition in Pouhon Pierre Le Grand in Spa showcases over a hundred original works by Joan Miró the Spanish master: watercolours, lithographs, drawings, engravings, collages and ceramics.
The vast majority of these pieces are being exhibited publicly for the first time, in this magnificent setting. The exhibition is based on several themes: the Spanish war, Surrealism, colours, the artist's hands, themes, simplicity, the role of childhood and liberty. The exhibition also includes an unknown aspect concerning this famous artist: his desire to go beyond painting and to appeal to the general public. In 1938, Miró wrote: "The more I work, the more I want to work. I want to try my hand at sculpture, pottery, print, to have a press. To try to go beyond, as far as possible, easel painting and to get closer, through painting, to the human masses, whom I have never ceased to desire". In 1948, Miró returned to Paris. This was the starting point for a considerable amount of the graphic work, which became more and more important in the artist's oeuvre.
Miró had completed hundreds of pieces up to 1982. The exhibition presents this immense whirlwind of creation. No artist has even been as free to do, or so dedicated to giving as Joan Miró
