Founded in the 10th century by Eraclus (Bishop of Liège), the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Laurent was destroyed during the Revolution. It became a military post from the beginning of the 19th century and is still occupied today by the Belgium army. There is also a wonderful museum dedicated to the Saint-Laurent military hospital which retraces the history of this institution and the Augustine Sisters of l'Hôtel-Dieu de Paris who worked in this hospital from 1839 to 1976 to take care of the patients.
