Discover the curious and fun history of cooking and food - from ancient times to today - told by by competent and enthusiastic guides and tools, furniture, paintings and objects. Discover the symbolic value of the cucumber and the artichoke, the dangers of the feeding bottle and the multiple uses of sugar. Sample the delicious ancient or regional recipes at the tavern and chose a souvenir at the museum boutique. The museum library contains the most important collection of books on gastronomy in Belgium: over 17.000 books! Guided tours (duration: 1h30). Both for children and adults (on Saturday at 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm and on Sunday at 11.30 am, 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm)! Parking for busses in front of the church Saint-Martin. Special visits on request for the partially sighted and disabled. During the weak, appointments for groups. Temporary exhibitions. Access for wheelchairs. Old (5th-19th c.) recipes at the tavern. A visit to "Ferme castrale de Hermalle-sous-Huy" or "Museum Postes Restantes" can be combined with a visit to the Museum of Gastronomy and the Museum Postes Restantes : € 7,-/pers. only for groups.

Here’s a museum that will delight gourmets, foodies, gastronomes... and greedy-guts alike! It retraces the curious and amusing history of cuisine and food from Antiquity to the present day, in all its facets. Discover the porte-fidibus, the zageman, the bousillé, and the fly cabinet too! Besides these original utensils, traditional objects are on show: they have many surprises in store for you too. You will learn more about the symbolic value of the cucumber and the artichoke, the many uses of sugar, the dangers of the baby’s bottle... Finally, through a questions and answers game, you will have the pleasure of guessing the use of certain tavern utensils. A rather quirky way of exploring the history of gastronomy!
