Nowadays a few hours is sufficient for a postman to distribute the letters. And in the old days? What were the dangers of the profession? How could he defend himself? Since when does the post exist at all? You'll find all the answers to these questions in the Museum. It is the only museum bearing witness to the postal history of the French-speaking part of Belgium. The history of writing instruments: styles, pens and fountain pens, calligraphy ... from about 3300 BC until today. Closed on 1 January and 25/12 coach parking (1 space) in the St-Martin Church square. Duration of visit: approx. 30 min. weekday group tours with advance reservation. (Duration 1 hour). Available on request for guests with a disability. On weekends, there are original snacks at the tavern: old recipes (14th to 19th century); regional recipes. Specialty meals for groups (from 8-70 persons) are also available on request. Information: see "Musée Postes restantes": € 7,-per person, only for groups.

Postes restantes museum.

A unique attraction in Francophone Belgium, the poste restante museum opens its doors to you to reveal all about the surprising history of writing and the mail, from Antiquity to the present day. Above all, you will be able to admire original objects that are archaeological and folkloric features in equal parts. Among them you will discover how to access one of the tombs of Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris. A particularly unusual exhibit tells you more about the works that the Post Office refused to convey for ethical reasons – even into the 1980s! Other objects that are as superb as they are authentic allow you to step back in time. This is the case with this ivory pen-holder or the first azerty French keyboard from a Remington typewriter, with its wooden “character bars”. An unsuspected delight!
