The Christmas markets in Liège province

Unmissable events during the end-of-year festivities, Christmas markets take over our province from the end of November onwards.
From the more traditional ones (Liège, Eupen, Spa) to the more original ones (Wonck, Barchon), explore the non-exhaustive list of markets and other organised Christmas events in this rubric!

Liège, Christmas City, the biggest and oldest Christmas market in Belgium

Located right in Liège city centre, the Christmas market lights up the Ardent City with its fairytale magic for 5 weeks. The numerous stall-holders in the 200 traditional wooden chalets offer you a vast choice of gifts or souvenirs.

Fans of regional tradition and cuisine are also catered for! Several chalets allow you to sample delicious regional products or local beers. As this event is family-friendly, a toboggan slope and a skating rink will thrill young and old.

Activities on the Place Verte and the two skating rinks, stars of the Christmas Market in Huy

While the Plaisirs d’hiver in Huy mainly take up the Grand-Place of Huy with numerous chalets and a skating rink, the various organised activities do not stop there.

The Place Verte recently also began hosting a second skating rink, along with several producers.

However, if you’re passing through Huy during the festive season, don’t miss the Hivernales au Jardin du Curé that take place at the rectory of Saint-Pierre church. There you will discover a romantic garden and an old burgher dwelling hung with its festive drapes and other fairytale decorations.

The magic of Christmas also pervades the cities of Verviers and Spa

During the second half of December, the City of Wool gets into Christmas mode! Food chalets, skating rink and other events, including several concerts, take place right in the centre of town.

While in Spa, around twenty chalets offering products originating from French, Italian, German or Romanian towns take over the Place Royale in Spa. The Christmas Market is also enlivened by various associations and sports clubs from the region.

Gastronomic products, gift items or decorations and Christmas lights feature too!

The Cantons of the East are not overlooked for Christmas, either

Named “Fééries de Glace”, the Christmas events in Malmedy feature a traditional, open-air, natural ice skating rink with a dozen Christmas chalets around it.

In Welkenradet, Christmas magic takes the form of “Noël aux Pyramides”. This legendary Christmas market hosts more than 70 superbly decorated stands and offers a multitude of gifts, decorative items and gastronomic products

Eupen, Saint-Vith, Waimes or the Maison du Parc Botrange also celebrate the most fairytale time of the year with their different Christmas markets, each one more convivial than the last.

Original Christmas Markets to seal the reputation of Liège province

If the Liégeois can be particularly proud of one thing, it’s undeniably their originality and way of standing out from the rest.

The Christmas Craft Market at the Grottes de Wonck is the perfect example of this. This entirely atypical market is organised at an exceptional location, that is to say, caves, which lends it a very particular character and enchantment. More than 80 stall-holders and artisans take their place in the 2 caves and 700 metres of gallery to make this event an unmissable one when it comes to Christmas markets.

What would you say to celebrating Christmas in a fort? You may think this idea is crazy, but it’s definitely very real. Indeed, around fifty artisans lay siege to the Fort de Barchon to exhibit their creations there.
